Se trata de un texto introductorio al concepto de "revolución científica". En la primera parte se aborda la polémica entre aquellos que apoyan la idea de la continuidad del desarrollo científico (Sarton, Whewell, Dijksterhuis ) y aquellos que ven en la historia de la ciencia como una sucesión entre periodos de estabilidad y periodos de revolución conceptual (Kuhn, Duhem, Koyré). La segunda parte estudia los casos de diversos personajes -Aristóteles, Galeno, Descartes y Newton, por ejemplo-, considerados los protagonistas de distintas revoluciones científicas.
