Grandpa. Novel in five days is a novel by Benito Pérez El abuelo Galdós, although its dialogue form can confuse us as if it were a dramatic work. It was published in 1897, and adapted for the dramatic genre, being premiered in 1904 at the Spanish Theater in Madrid. Count Albrit has returned to Spain after a failed adventurous journey through Peru, but he returns poor and blind upon learning of the death of his only son. Once in Spain, the old man finds out that one of his two granddaughters is illegitimate, since Lucrecia, his daughter-in-law, has been unfaithful to his son with a painter named Carlos Eraul. This leads him to want to discover who his real granddaughter is, however, he does not know it, and he sticks to the one who is not really without knowing it: Dolly, because she is really the only one who shows her love and respect because, although she has impoverished, she is still proud and detached from the people around her. Finally, Lucrecia confesses that Dolly is the illegitimate. Thus, the grandfather discovers that Nell, with whom he barely maintained a relationship due to the character of both, is his true granddaughter, but that the relationship he maintains with Dolly exceeds the tradition with which he always sympathized, as well as the blood unions.
